The Vikings first came to Ireland in the 8th Century as plunderers. They often stole treasure and slaves from Ireland’s monasteries and settlements. Over time, the Vikings settled and built their own towns, including Dublin, Waterford, and Wexford.

As the Viking and Gaelic cultures intermingled, they created their own unique Hiberno-Norse art form. The Wood Quay site was the heart of Viking Dublin. Rich in artifacts, this site in the centre of Dublin City, contained an invaluable cultural heritage. Despite widespread protest, the site was unfortunately destroyed in the 1970’s to make way for The Dublin Civic Offices. (The photograph on the right shows the excavations on the site before the bulldozers moved in).

Our Wood Quay Collection emulates the metalwork and decorative art found at that site. Its rich blend of history, ornate metalwork, and unusual patterns is sure to delight you.
